Halloween Ghost Cupcakes

The base takes minutes to whip together and the decorating is very simple to do; perfect for entertaining the children this half-term. The base of these cupcakes are chocolate and the topping is a very simple vanilla buttercream.
Halloween Ghost Cupcakes
These easy Halloween cupcakes are both fun to make and delicious to eat. Chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla buttercream that make a 'spooktacular' addition to the Halloween party!
Ingredients
Cupcakes
- 110 g plain flour
- 50 g cocoa powder
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 200 g caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 100 g buttermilk or natural yoghurt
- 50 g sunflower oil
- 110 g hot water
- Tiny pinch of salt
Vanille Buttercream
- 125 g soft butter
- 125 g icing sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Small chocolate chips or silver balls
Instructions
- Heat oven to 180C / 160C Fan
- Sieve the dry ingredients together into a large bowl.
- Break the egg into another bowl and add the buttermilk, oil and hot water and mix well together.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and whisk together until just combined.
- Pour the mixture into a jug (it's a wet mixture) and fill the cupcake cases two thirds full.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes (or a bit longer for larger cupcakes) until set.
- Remove from the oven and eave to cool on a wire rack.
- To make the icing, whisk together the icing sugar, butter and vanilla until really light and fluffy.
- Using the piping bag and a plain nozzle pipe the vanilla buttercream onto the cupcake in an upside-down cone shape
- Place two mini chocolate chips near the top of the frosting for the eyes!
